Today is Memorial Day 2015. It was a VERY special day to my dad, who served in the Navy in World War II. He was so thankful that not only he returned safe from the War, but many of his brothers who served…he had nine and his brother in law…Uncle Bob also came home without injury.
Dad always set up a display at church to remember & HONOR those who died serving their country.
Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971.
Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades.
It unofficially marks the beginning of summer.
Memorial Day may mean just a day off to some, but to others, it marks a day of reflection, remembrance and memorial.
